Stuart McClatchy, Process Engineer

1. Tell me about your role at Denroy.

I first started at Denroy as a Process Engineer, helping set up the Denpro FFP3 face mask production during COVID-19.

My role has since developed into Automation Engineer as Denroy has started in-house automation projects. I work mainly on the mechanical aspects consisting of CAD design and assembly of bespoke machinery and automated solutions.

2. How have your skills and expertise developed within your job?

Through working on such a wide variety of projects I have gained more experience in all aspects of automation. This has helped me gain a greater understanding of the relationship between mechanical, electrical and software components as I had previously only studied mechanical engineering at university. This has allowed me to optimize designs, taking everything into consideration to improve how the systems perform.

I am also fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues who have provided valuable knowledge and insight that will help me throughout the rest of my career.

3. What are some of your professional goals within Denroy?

I would like to enhance my proficiency in CAD software as I continue to design more automation solutions throughout Denroy. I hope to keep up to date with the latest developments in automation technology so I can help Denroy progress with its Industry 4.0 journey.

4. What is one of your proudest moments or achievements whilst working with Denroy?

One of my proudest moments at Denroy would be setting up the production of the FFP3 face masks. During the pandemic there was a major shortage in these face masks particularly in Northern Ireland. It was a privilege working on this project knowing we were doing all we could to help protect our health care workers.

This was my first job since graduating from university, so I learnt a lot from setting up a full production site from nothing.

5. What’s something you are passionate about outside of the working world?

Outside of work I have an interest in sports and fitness including the gym, football and golf.
