Gary Saunders

Denroy EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Officer

  1. Tell me a bit about your role at Denroy.

I have been employed as the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer for the Denroy group since March 2022. My job role is to reduce accidents and incidents, and to ensure and advise the company on legal compliance issues.

2. What do you like best about working at Denroy?

Working alongside a great team of people. It is uncommon to find a medium sized manufacturing company that is still a family run company. The family run aspect gives it a more flexible, friendly atmosphere.

3. What skills and expertise do you bring to the team?

I have been working in manufacturing and engineering for 25 years. Ten of those years, I worked in production. While working in production, I gained a range of training and skills such as 5S principles, problem solving techniques, training assessor qualifications and eventually completed a Degree in Science & Technology.

4. Have you completed any recent qualifications or courses that have helped you with your job?

Over the past 10 years, I have actively built up a range of training and skills specifically in Health, Safety & Environmental. This includes machine safety expert, occupational hygiene, PAT testing, manual handling instructor, auditing for ISO 45001 & 14001, NEBOSH diploma, among others. I have recently organised training for internal auditors for ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001. Some aspect of this training was a refresher for some people and new for others. We now have a focused team of auditors who carry out regular internal audits.

5. Can you provide any insights into future targets you want to achieve within your role?

The goal is for the company to become certified for an integrated management system certified to ISO 45001 (Health safety management) and 14001 (environmental management) in 2024.
